Dutch Appelmoes (Applesauce)

The Netherlands export over $170 million in apples every year. In fact it's the 10th largest apple exporter in the world!

There are many great Dutch spins on apple recipes, including this all-time classic side dish: apple sauce. Pairs great with virtually any meal!

Don't feel like preparing it for yourself? You can always get it ready-made!

Ingredients:

  • 8 large apples, in a variety of flavours
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons sugar (depending on how sweet the apples are)
  • ¼ cup water or apple juice
  • 1 cinnamon stick (or ½ teaspoon cinnamon), optional

Directions:

  1. Peel, core and chop apples
  2. Toss the apples with lemon juice
  3. Place all ingredients in a saucepan
  4. Cook on low heat until apples have softened. Keep an eye on it, since it can burn easily.

Could i use the apple sauce as a pie filling, it sounds similar to apple pie filling
