Dutch Sausage Rolls Recipe

These crispy, flaky, savoury pastries are a great snack or light lunch! You can make a batch and keep them for a while, or serve as a party favour.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef, the leaner the better
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/8-1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- 2 tablespoons bread crumbs
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 sheet puff pastry, partially defrosted
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 teaspoon water
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400° F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
- Unfold puff pastry sheets. Cut each sheet into 8 equal pieces.
- Mix the first 10 ingredients in a large bowl. Getting in there and using your hands is the best! Divide the meat mixture into 8 equal portions.
- Form each of the meat portions into a sausage shape, and place length wise on the puff pastry. Wrap the pastry around the meat and seal the edges with a bit of water on your fingers. If you would like smaller rolls, slice each piece in half or quarters.
- Beat egg yolk with water and brush over the rolls.
- Place the sausage rolls onto prepared baking sheet. Place baking sheet in middle of preheated oven and bake for 20 minutes or until pastry is crisp and golden.
- Serve warm on their own or with a grainy Dutch mustard. Leftovers (doubtful there will be any!) can be re-heated in the oven or air fryer for up to 4 days. Microwave is not recommended, as the pastry will get mushy.
