Old Fashioned Dutch Salad

This recipe is over 100 years old. It is ridiculously simple to make, and incredibly delicious. You can always add tomatoes or cucumbers if you like, but sometimes just the basics is all you need.
Ingredients:
· 1 head lettuce (Iceberg or Bib works well)
· ½ red onion
· Salt and pepper, optional
· 1 ½ teaspoons butter
· ¼ cup sugar
· ½ cup apple cider vinegar (white vinegar works too)
Directions:
· Wash and dry the lettuce.
· Tear into smaller pieces and place in a bowl.
· Melt the butter in a frying pan until lightly brown, being careful not to burn it.
· On medium heat add the sugar and vinegar.
· Bring to a boil.
· Remove from heat, pour over salad, toss and serve.
