Rode Kool

With just a few common ingredients and some red cabbage, you can make a delicious side. Add some smoked sausage and upgrade it to the main dish!
Ingredients:
1 head red cabbage, shredded (or jarred works great too!)
3 tablespoons white vinegar, or to taste
2 tablespoons sugar
½ teaspoon ground cloves
Black pepper, to taste
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon butter
Directions:
Cook the cabbage, salt, pepper and cloves in a small amount of water for about 45 minutes, making sure it doesn’t boil dry.
Add the vinegar during the last 10 minutes of cooking.
Add the butter and adjust the seasonings right before serving.
Tips:
Cooked bacon bits and/or a shredded tart apple (like Granny Smith) takes this dish to a whole other level!
