Liberation 80

Liberation 80

This May marks the 80th anniversary of the Liberation of the Netherlands!

In 1945, the Allies, and primarily Canadian soldiers, pushed the Nazis out of the Netherlands after years of brutal occupation. Over 7600 Canadian soldiers gave their lives freeing the Dutch, and their sacrifice is remembered to this day. Every spring, the Dutch government sends tulips to Ottawa in commemoration of this historic friendship.

After the war many Dutch families moved to Canada to start new lives, and their community is why The Dutch Shop exists. We are proud to mark this milestone of freedom and invite everyone to take a moment this May and reflect on what 80 years of freedom means to you.

If you live locally, we are having a cake reception at both our locations on Saturday May 3rd. Come join us in person and celebrate!
