Frikandellen

Frikandellen

Don't call it a hot dog! This iconic Dutch sausage is perfect for summer patios and football games. Make them yourself, or buy them frozen at our stores!

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 pounds ground meat (beef, chicken, pork, or a combination)
  • 1 glove garlic
  • 1 small onion
  • 1 teaspoon dried mustard
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • ½ teaspoon white pepper
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1.5 tablespoons breadcrumbs

Directions:

  1. Boil a large pot of water.
  2. Place the meat, onions and garlic in the bowl of a food processor and mis until fine.
  3. Add the breadcrumbs and spices and mix until you have a firm smooth texture.
  4. Lay some plastic wrap in a damp surface. Using about ½ cup of meat mixture, form balls and then roll them into a strip and wrap tightly in the plastic wrap.
  5. Repeat for the rest of the mixture.
  6. As soon as the water comes to a boil, turn to low. Cook the tightly rolled, plastic wrapped meat for about 10 minutes.
  7. Unwrap the frikadellen and either deep fry them at 350° until golden or freeze them for later.

Serve with chopped onion, curry ketchup, mayonnaise or fritesaus.
